Some of us seem to have more and more trouble remembering, a name, or some information we should be able to recall easily. How about you?
Are you concerned because a family member of yours is experiencing some short-term memory loss? Can these things be improved?
Memory Card
Yes, these conditions can be improved. How? Here are a few tips.
Exercise - the brain. I imagine you have heard the sayings: "Use it or lose it" & "Practice makes perfect." One good way to exercise your brain and practice memorizing is with the simple card game children play...Concentration. In case you are not familiar with this game, You just place all the cards in the deck face down, so you can see the backs of all the cards. Turn over one card - then turn it back over remembering where it is located. Then turn over another card trying to match it. If, you are correct, remove the pair. If wrong, turn it back over exactly where you found it. Each player does this in turn and the winner has the most matches. Actually, anyone who plays this game is a winner... It exercises your brain, and with practice you are improving your concentration and memory.
Exercise - Physically, preferably outdoors -- Another old saying ... "Fresh Air clears the cobwebs out of your brain." I do not know about that but, I do know how good I feel after a brisk walk outdoors and, it does help my attitude and makes my mental tasks easier.
Learning New Skills, is an excellent exercise for the brain. Most of our activities are accomplished by rote without our even having to hardly think about them. Not much brain exercise there.
Meditation - Research has proven that we actually grow new brain cells by meditating, (quieting the mind).
Proper Nutrition - Foods with Vitamin E and B complex are foods for the brain. There are also supplements & herbs, which help the brain like, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, Green Tea, and Sage. I will not go into detail on this subject, but if interested you will easily be able to find lots of excellent books and articles that will be helpful. One of my favorites is "Nourishing the Body Temple" by Simone Gabbay. She also has published articles on nutrition in the "Venture Inward" magazine.
Get Plenty of Sleep - This is just common sense. I am sure you have probably experienced the difference in quality of your thinking when you are tired or well rested.
Affirmations - "As You Think You Are." Watch your self- talk. (what you are silently telling yourself about yourself). Turn those negative thoughts into positive ones. ( example: "I can not remember" -change to - "I have an excellent memory."Hopefully, these tips have been beneficial to you.
